Wander with Us at Watson

Join us for a meet up at Watson Rare and Native Plant Preserve in Warren, Texas. This was the former homestead of Geraldine Watson one of the advocates for the establishment of Big Thicket National Preserve. This 10-acre preserve provides great opportunities to see the various environments in The Big Thicket in one small area.  Opportunities abound to photograph wildflowers, butterflies, birds, carnivorous plants and small intimate landscape scenes.   The preserve borders a lake that is often occupied by wood ducks and other waterfowl and a spring fed stream runs rich with tannins.  Board walks and trails are easily traversed although the boardwalks can be slick.  Make sure you bring your mosquito spray, hiking shoes and your cameras.

Flutter & Frame:  Capturing the Magic of Butterflies

The National Butterfly Center is a private nonprofit organization. This 100-acre native plant botanical garden and wildlife preserve has been established by the North American Butterfly Association to advance their mission of education and conservation. Please note that there is a $10 admission fee for the venue.

Framing History: A Photography Meetup at Mission Espada

10:00 AM - Noon

Join us for a photo meetup on in San Antonio at Mission Espada and the Espada Aqueduct, a National Park Service site, and the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas. This meetup location promises a variety of unique shots for photographers in a setting that combines cultural heritage with architecture. The mission, with its Spanish Colonial architecture and rich history is a beautiful location for capturing both wide shots and small details. The striking Tree of Life, or Arbol de la Vida sculpture is nearby, and highlights craftsmanship set against the natural area. The Espada Aqueduct is a few miles from the mission and is the oldest Spanish aqueduct in the United States. Designed and built to carry water from the San Antonio River to the mission through remarkable engineering, the aqueduct’s historic stone arches and water system make it a unique landmark.
